If one were to rely on recent criticisms of the man, one would think that El Alcalde was akin to oil companies in his disregard of the environment. His disregard to the work the Knox Park Foundation put in to the Farmington and Broad Street proposed site for the Pathways to Technology Charter School fueled this criticism. Knox Park planted multiple trees and shrubery on the site and created a much needed green space for that area. Eddie had the site dug up in his tug of war with the state. The site resembles the perfect mud football field now.
So it was with much surprise that IonHartford heard of El Alcalde’s participation in Knox Park’s Trees for Hartford’s Neighborhoods program this past Saturday, April 14. It was with added surprise to find out that this was not Eddie’s first foray into this program…he has participated in four other such plantings. Apparently Eddie is quite the arborist. Aside with one criticism that he uses too much mulch, he dug in like everyone else who planted a total of 34 trees on Sherman Street.
I remember working at Amazon.com in 2000. When orders were particularly heavy, everyone was asked to pull books for orders. Pretty easy stuff, throw on some headphone, listen to your favorite Streisand/Manilow songs and pull books from the shelves. One day as I was jammin to a live version of People when I bumped into someone. As I was about to do a buckwild on said person, I realize that it was Jeff Bezos, Founder, CEO, President, you know…God himself. I can not emphasize how something as simple as that boosts morale.
This is the Eddie I know. Someone who is always ready and available to help when needed. A persona which clashes with what we see depicted on blogs and the papers everywhere. I am not the only acquaintance who notices a major difference from the regular Eddie to el politico Eddie. Assumptions always goto the emphasis his Chief of Staff has on policy. I’ve never met the man myself and will withhold judgement, but for the lilfe of me, I have yet to meet anyone who has anything nice to say about Matt Hennesey.
On a more positive note. Do not be surprised if you see Knox Park contracted to return the Farmington/Broad Street site back to the nice little park it was. This request will be, as it should be, spearheaded by Eddie and we will most like ly not hear much about it.

He can come down and plant some trees on Alden anytime.
When I make criticisms of media or anyone, it’s with the hope that they’ll get their shit together and make appropriate changes. The exception is Bush & Cheney. Lost causes.
But if that is the real Perez, I’d much rather see a lot of that, and less of the campaigning that, of late, has become a real turn-off.
Luis – the courant finally picked up on your scoop about trinity this morning.
