Tonight, November 26, three Hartford City Council members (Painter, Sheff, and Segarra) will present a resolution which will require the Mayor to work towards the creation of immigrant friendly legislation in the city. If this passes it will be the first step in the journey to make Hartford a safe haven for all of its residents. The vote on this would be interesting as two of the council people proposing this resolution will not be here come January. Painter and Sheff are both leaving and Segarra is showing some royal C.O. Jones by adding his name to this. I’ll update this post tomorrow with result and reactions.
Also…tonight Mayor Eddie Perez will formally nominate Carlos Rivera as Director of the Department of Health and Human Services. Carlos had been acting director after doofus boy Ramon Rojano left around March of this year. If there are such things as friends for life, I am happy to count Carlos as mine. Born in Caguas, PR, Carlos and his family moved to CT in the late 60s and he grew up on Belden Street in Hartford. I met him as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Church and we’ve been boys ever since. I remember hanging at the Albany Pizza House with him kickin his buttocks at Centipede.
What to expect? Fairness to a fault. Carlos is nobody’s puppet. He has like five hundred Masters degrees and a commitment to city residents only rivaled by a certain first time city councilperson. He’s a Red Sox fan (so we know he has issues) and unfortunately is a big fan of the Steelers (bleh.) Other than these glaringly bad decisions in his life, he has been blessed with a beautiful wife and 3 weird but cute kids.
I welcome this appointment by El Alcalde to again look in our own back yard before bringing an outsider to help us po’ folks.

Yo, dissin’ the Red Sox?! Maybe I’ll retract my vote now. Can I do that, or do the vote sheets get shredded when inserted in the “scanners”?
