
As reported by the Hartford Courant, Pedro Segarra has joined two other Hartford Councilors in calling for the removal of Councilman Calixto Torres as President of Hartford’s Court of Common Council. The gains of Hartford’s Puerto Rican community was added to by the suprising election of yours truly in the 2007 election. For decades the Hartford Democrats had settled on a compromise regarding the selection process of its six nominees, 2 Puerto Ricans, 2 Blacks, 2 Whites. The election of Luis Cotto, a member of the Working Families Party, meant that for the first time in Hartford history there were going to be three Puerto Ricans on Hartford City Council.
